Over the Memorial Day weekend, the lakes at Verona Park had some special visitors! Professional swimmer Lily King and six other Hoosier swimmers were invited by Renaissance Rentals owner Tim Henke, an athlete himself, to make use of Howard Lake in light of the training interruptions the Covid-19 pandemic has brought. With most pools and training complexes closed for safety, these athletes are having to get creative to continue their conditioning. While Howard Lake is a bit different than an Olympic pool, what with its moss and the occasional turtle, it nevertheless allowed for some quality practice for these swimmers.
David Woods of the Indy Star wrote this excellent article about the swimmers and their experience at Howard Lake. To clarify, the swimmers mentioned here were specially invited to make use of the lakes at Verona Park – they are not open to public use. If you’re interested in learning more about the lakes at Verona Park and how they’ve improved the area, see this earlier blog post of ours.
